The Basics: Social Health and Wellness

August 24, 2012

Parents, children, bosses, bus drivers, schoolmates, co-workers, grandparents, cousins, stepparents…they are our friends, family, loved ones, and enemies. Who you spend time with can have a significant impact on your life, and your happiness. Some people empower and inspire us. Other people diminish, and lower us. Have you ever had a relationship that made you feel brand new? Like you were being seen and heard for the first time, and you were important. The excitement of being around that person. The joy when you heard that key in the door. The smile that would brighten your whole face with simply a thought of that person. Now, have you ever dreaded the very thought of someone? Like when you get that weird feeling in the pit of your stomach. The kind that makes you feel nauseous. You feel angry and frustrated, or small and insignificant when you are around that person. Of course there are several feelings in between these two extremes. You can feel happy, comforted, anxious, resentful…so many things when you are around different people. But, it is who you want to be that is most important. I hope that who you want to be is happy, confident, energetic, and loved. You can be that person.

You have to make healthy choices in regard to the people you let, and keep in your life. Everyone is not meant to be a part of your life. Keep the lifelong friends, and get rid of the seasonal ones when the time is right. It doesn’t mean that you don’t like them. It just means that the season is changing, and it is time to move on. Well, you also may not like them, and that’s ok. Sometimes people clash, and sometimes people are unkind and undeserving of you. Sometimes it is you who is undeserving. You have to be honest with yourself, and admit when it is you that is the problem.

The purpose of this section of the blog is to explore social relationships, the impact these relationships can have on you, and the importance of having healthy relationships.

In this section, we will be posting about:
– family, friends, and loved ones
– the importance of healthy relationships
– things to do with loved ones
– getting toxic people out of your life
